Alexandra offered two alternative design approaches to future toys:
-First she suggested to take open sourceness to (hybrid) toy design - that would mean documenting design and creation of the toy precisely and publishing that documentation, so that 'everybody' could make the toy, but also customise it. This approach still allows companies to sell the toy, but is open to constant creative innovation at the same time.
-Another not unrelated approach could be to not try and design the total play expe rience, but to come up with a hard-and software platform on which different play experiences can be implemented. Off course this was not Nintendo's intention with the Wii, but it comes quite close to the hackers approach the Wii mote. Also the Swinx kit is a try-out in this directio n.

NEW MOSTER!!!

1. Perhaps children would feel inclined to leave to monster some mail if we provide the beast with a mailbox by the pond. We would provide paper and pen next to the box. We would decorate the box in a way which would make it very apparent that it belongs to the monster.

2. By setting up binoculars by the park benches, perhaps the children will be inclined to search for the monster in the pond after encountering the footprints which lead to the pond.

3.Trick or treat!

Halloween Festival is going to be in Morningside Park this Saturday between 2:00 and 3:30.They will be free Games and treats.
The goal will be arrive early and make our playground the most attractive and interactive for all kids doing a visual connection between our moster and "Halloween monsters" .

We write the monste's story in differents areas close to the pond (using Chalk as footprints) and kids draw the moster of their imagination.

FEATURES:
Origin :Morningside Park NYC
Apperarence: Mutated Duck

Duck legs with a hair torso and head
Its face has never been seen
Reason for mutation: Columbia student's chemistry experiment.
Temperment: calm, harmless ,shy
Food:grasse, dogs, cats, aquatic plants, fish, insect, amphibians, worms, pigneons
rodents, mostly a scavanger.

After being fed a bizarre concoction whipped up by a local Columbia student, a duck experienced extreme changes. Although the moster is mostly harmless many have credited the disappearance of lost pets to the moster. As the once-duck began to mutate it began to shy away from world and stays in the tall grassy areas by the waterfall.
The moster has resentment of his fellow ducks who outcast him but has a soft spot for turtles, his only friends in the pond.At night he is known to wonder around the park looking for strays and to observe those who enter the park in the middle of the night.

1)LEAVE FOOTPRINTS MADE OF CARDBOARD IN THE PLAYGROUND:
We tried in an space full of sand and we waited for the children's reaction.
observation
Two children around 3 and 4 years old went toward the prints:
- They started to play with the prints
- They did not find a connection between the footprints and a monster.
- Even when the mother told them it was a monster's footprint, they didn't care too much
Conclusion: It does not work in park floors:
Possible Alternatives for this age:
- Design the monster they can see and they can make their own story
NOTE: so many kids are scared of monsters and they don't want to see them!!

2) WE TOLD WITH THE MOTHERS WAITING SOME FEEDBACK
- Children between 0-4 years old are not able to associate a footprint with a Monster without
their mothers telling them.( Maybe if they see the face, they would react more)
-Children 5 to 6 years old are able to associate the footprints to that of a monster (Note: They use to play
in the park between 10-11 or 4-5)

3)USING RELATED SIGNS REFERING TO DISSAPEARING OBJECTS FROM THE PARK TO INFER A MOSTER:
-Does not work. Only mothers notice it.
- Maybe it will work if we design a Monster. It should be really scary and maybe the children will associate the
prints with a monster and think the monster is there!
NOTE: If we use the footprints in Morningside it would be beter to draw the prints on the floor. Kids could break carboard easily.

PROPORSAL FOR MORNINGSIDE PARK

GOAL
For our interactive project we have decided to transform the pond in Morningside Park into a space for game play and storytelling. In an attempt to bring together two different groups within the park (children and the elderly), we would like to attract the children out of the playground and to the pond. We plan on doing this by luring them with a monster story. We plan on attracting the children into the pond to play a game that involves searching for Nelly the Loch Ness monster. We will try to teach children the historic myth and try to get them actively engaged in actually looking for Nelly in the park’s pond. After being lured to the pond by monstrous footprints that begin in the playground, the children will encounter the illustrated legend lining the sides of the pond. They will also encounter binoculars strapped to the benches nearby. If all goes according to plan the children will utilize these binoculars to find the monster lurking in the depths of the pond.

First Assignment - Passion Portraits

Situation: Central Park.

I was surfing through a open wifi connection and suddenling a plane leave a messege.
It is so confused. Do you wat to read it?

The video aims to reflect the possibilities of narrative creation in real time using a web cam.

I am interested in the way art affects technology and media by making it more intuitive and easier for users to interact with , and the way new media and technology affect art by opening up new tools (PDA, cell phones, GPS,…) and analysis to explore with. I would like to do new forms generated by real-time networking and interaction.

One of my current goals is to learn to develop a series of art projects on the Web that take place in real time via different devices and to look deeper at the change in transience and the viewer’s new way of approaching this kind of work.
